RICHARDSON, Texas – Clinging to a 4-3 lead after five innings, the East Texas Baptist University softball team brought in five more insurance runs for a 9-3 victory over the University of Texas Dallas Comets to complete the sweep. ETBU is now 10-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

Mikaelyn Settles (two RBI) and Madison Prince would each have three hits while Linzie Lewis and Daniella Solis would have two RBI. Rocki Tello got the win with 4.1 innings pitched allowing three runs on seven hits while Jordan Anderson pitched the last 2.2 shutout innings allowing not hits and striking out four. Melissa Livermore led UTD with three hits while Karen Crane got the loss with 3.0 IP allowing three runs on four hits.

In the top of the first inning, ETBU scored a run on a double steal by Lewis and MacKenzie Anderson, who scored the run. One inning later, Madison Prince singled, stole second and third before scoring on an error to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the third, UTD would cut into the deficit 2-1 with an RBI single.  In the fourth inning, Solis connected on a two-run shot to left to make it 4-1 ETBU.

UTD would answer with a solo homer and an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 4-3. But ETBU would extend their lead as RBI hits by Morgan Arst and Lewis made it 7-3 in the sixth inning. Settles would then give ETBU a 9-3 lead with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh. That would be the final score.

ETBU will return home for a doubleheader against Trinity this Tuesday at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
