LONGVIEW, Texas- Holding their opponents scoreless in two games, the East Texas Baptist University softball team take down American Southwest Conference rival LeTourneau University on Friday night. ETBU won game one 6-0, while tacking on a 7-0 win in game two. The team improves to 19-4 overall and 13-1 in ASC play this season. The Tigers will close out the series against LETU on Saturday, March 24, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
Sabrina Salts turned in a stellar all-around performance in game one, collecting three RBI on three hits, including a homerun.
Mikaelyn Settles and
Daniella Solis each added a homerun, while
Nikki Gil and
Morgan Arst drove in runs.
Jeanette Galvan led the defensive effort, tallying five put-outs.
Rocki Tello continued her remarkable season, allowing only five hits and collecting five strikeouts en route to a 9-0 record on the year.
Linzie Lewis led the way in game two, recording two runs on two hits and an RBI. Arst and Settles also added two runs in the second victory.Â
Jordan Anderson led the charge in the circle, striking out 10 batters and only allowing two hits in all seven innings pitched. Â
Game 1: ETBU 6, LETU 0
The top of the third inning was the story for ETBU, as they would use this inning to do all of their damage. Gil guided a hit up the middle of the field for a single, advancing her to first base. A sacrifice bunt by Galvan would put Gil on second base. Arst and Anderson found themselves walked onto first and second, setting up a major scoring opportunity. Lewis would ground out to second base, scoring Gil for the first run of the contest (1-0). Salts put the finishing touches on a productive sequence, hitting a homerun that would score Arst and Anderson for the 4-0 lead.
Settles and Solis would tack on two homeruns of their own to close out the top of the third and increase the lead to 6-0. Neither team scored a run for the remainder of the game, securing the 6-0 victory for ETBU.
Game 2: ETBU 7, LETU 0
Anderson would find herself on first base after being hit by a pitch to start things off at the top of the first inning. Arst was reached on a fielder's choice, sending her to second base but putting out Anderson in the process. Lewis would then advance to third base, which opened the door for Arst to score ETBU's first run of the contest (1-0). Salts would add an RBI single that would score Lewis and give the Tigers the 2-0 edge over the Yellow Jackets.
Gil and Settles would add on two more runs at the top of the second to increase the Tiger lead to four (4-0). Arst, Lewis and Settles added on three more runs to the LETU deficit, leading to the 7-0 victory over the ASC rivals.
ETBU will conclude the series with the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, March 4 with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. Â Â
