SHREVEPORT, Louisiana – Scoreless for five innings, the East Texas Baptist University softball team would use late-inning home runs by
MacKenzie Anderson and Nikki Gill to propel them to a 5-1 victory over the Centenary College Ladies. This victory now puts ETBU at 21-4 overall for the season.
Offensively,
Madison Prince and
Sabrina Salts led the way with two hits each while
MacKenzie Anderson would drive in three RBI on a three-run homer.
Rocki Tello started the game and would get the win after five innings of one-run, five-hit pitching while striking out two.
Jordan Anderson would get the save with two scoreless innings in which she only walked one batter while striking out one. Kelsey Ancelot led the Ladies with two hits while Hallie Smith's solo homer was the only run batted in for CC. Nicole Aldridge got the loss with six innings allowing four runs on six hits walking and striking out two batters each.
The first four-and-a-half innings were scoreless as neither team was able to drive in any runs. ETBU would put their first runner in scoring position on a double by Salts, who would end up staying there by the end of the frame. CC would get their first threat in the bottom of the third after a leadoff steal and stolen base. Tello picked up the next two outs before walking another batter to put runners at the corners. The runners would be stranded there as a fly out to right to right ended the frame.
The Ladies would strike first on a home run to right for a 1-0 lead. ETBU had another great chance to score in the top of the fifth with two singles, but to no avail. But their patience would soon be rewarded in the top of the sixth inning as ETBU put two runners on again. This time,
MacKenzie Anderson would take the pitcher deep to left to grab a 3-1 lead. After
Jordan Anderson came into pitch a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth, ETBU added insurance runs on a solo homer by Gill and an RBI groundout by
Morgan Arst.
ETBU will return home for their three-game series this weekend against Hardin-Simmons. Thursday's game will be at 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM while Friday's finale will start at 12:00 PM.
