#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Softball's Jordan Anderson Shuts Out HSU in Doubleheader

Anderson pitches no-hitter in in game one.

MARSHALL, Texas – Shutting out Hardin-Simmons University and not allowing any runs over 14 innings of the double header, the East Texas Baptist University softball team would use just one pitcher in a pair of victories to sweep the Cowgirls, 4-0, and 5-0, in American Southwest Conference play. The wins put ETBU at 23-4 and 16-1 as Jordan Anderson earned both wins and a no hitter in game one.

Game one was a 4-0 victory for ETBU as MacKenzie Anderson led with two hits while sharing two RBI along with Sabrina Salts. Jordan Anderson would pitch her second career no-hitter as she went all seven innings striking out 11 batters. Gabby Ortega went six innings allowing four runs on four hits while walking four batters and striking out three.

Game two would see ETBU pick up a 5-0 win. Once again, Anderson went seven innings. But this time, she allowed five hits while walking one batter and striking out nine. Linzie Lewis led the way with two hits and two runs scored while Daniella Solis had two RBI. Lexie Allen took the loss for HSU in six innings allowing five runs on nine hits while walking five and striking out three.

For Anderson, the two shutout victories, including her no-hitter was all a credit to her teammates. "It was awesome," said Anderson. "We really worked as a team because earning the shutouts. Hardin-Simmons still hit the ball pretty well but our defense was able to work the ball and really get some good outs."

Game 1 – ETBU 4, HSU 0
Jordan Anderson would start the game with two scoreless innings before ETBU started the second inning with a solo shot from MacKenzie Anderson. Sabrina Salts would then make it 3-0 with a two-run homer to left center. One inning later, Mackenzie Anderson would then single in another run for a 4-0 lead.

Anderson would only allow one baserunner on an error throughout the whole game. But afterwards she would retire fourteen straight hitters. The last inning saw Anderson strikeout the first two hitters before getting the final batter to pop out to the catcher for the win.

Game 2 – ETBU 5, HSU 0
HSU started the game with a two-out single in the top of the first inning but the runner was left stranded as Anderson struck out the next hitter. ETBU would get their first run on a stolen base from Lewis in the bottom of the first. A RBI single from Solis and a sacrifice fly from MacKenzie Anderson made it 3-0 after one inning.

Arst would drive in Lewis in the bottom of the second inning with a double to make it 4-0. HSU threatened in the top of the fourth as they loaded the bases but ETBU was able to get out of trouble with a pop out to third. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Solis would drive in Brea Robinson for a 5-0 lead. HSU tried again in the top of the sixth inning when they loaded the bases. But once again, Anderson was helped by the ETBU defense on a groundout to Mackenzie Anderson. ETBU then held HSU to a 1-2-3 in the seventh inning to preserve the victory.

ETBU will finish the series tomorrow at 12:00 PM as it will also be Military Appreciation Day.
