#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Softball Finishes Sweep of HSU on Military Appreciation Day

MARSHALL, Texas – On Military Appreciation Day while wearing their camouflaged uniforms, the East Texas Baptist University softball team completed the sweep of Hardin-Simmons University with a 7-1 victory in American Southwest Conference play. This puts ETBU at 24-4 overall and 17-1 in the ASC.

ETBU was led by Morgan Arst, who had two hits and a RBI while Sabrina Salts (home run) and MacKenzie Anderson each had two RBI. While Rocki Tello started the game by going 3.1 innings allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts, McKayla Hendrix got the win with 2.2 innings of relief allowing just one hit and three strikeouts. Alyssa Bazan then pitched a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts. For HSU, Shayde Millican, Kirsten Kenyon, and Lexie Allen each had a hit while Hilarie Carpenter had the only RBI. Gabby Ortega would pitch 3.2 innings allowing six runs on five hits while walking six batters and struck out two batters for the loss. Genia Salazar would add 2.1 innings allowing one run on one hit while walking three batters and striking out a batter.

For Anderson, contributing to ETBU's win was memorable, especially on a day that had so much meaning to her. "It was awesome," said Anderson. "My dad served in the U.S Navy. So it was awesome to represent that and just say thank you to all the people that served for our country."

Anderson would get ETBU on the board with a two-run triple in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Two innings later, ETBU would get another run on a throwing error by HSU, which scored Morgan Arst for a 3-0 lead. Tello would only allow a walk in the first three innings in the circle.

HSU would breakthrough in the hit column with back-to-back singles to lead off the top of the fourth inning. A walk to the next hitter loaded the bases with nobody out before the Cowgirls would get their first run of the series on a hit by pitch. Hendrix would come in and retire the next two hitters on a strikeout and a fielder's choice.

ETBU would get three runs back in the bottom of the fourth inning on a RBI single by Arst and a two-run homer from Salts. They would then add another run in the fifth inning on a stolen base from Brea Robinson, who scored on an error to make it 7-1. Bazan then finished the job with a scoreless seventh inning to preserve the victory.

ETBU will travel to Tyler, Texas, for their next series against #3 University of Texas Tyler. Friday's doubleheader will be at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM while Saturday's series finale will take place at 12:00 PM.
