MARSHALL, Texas – Another road trip is in store for the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team as they travel to Iowa for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games of the NCAA Division III Tournament. ETBU is facing #6 University of St. Thomas on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Waverly, Iowa. If they win that, they will face the winner of the #2 Wartburg/#7 Trine University on Saturday at 8 p.m.

ETBU is the Cinderella team of the NCAA Tournament not receiving any votes in the national polls and is the fourth ranked team in the South Region. Coming into the American Southwest Conference tournament, ETBU was third from the East Division. The ASC has an eight-team tournament with four teams from each division.

The run in the post season started with a low scoring win over Howard Payne University, 50-36, and then the upset of Texas Dallas, 66-61. ETBU then also upset Mary Hardin-Baylor, who was also receiving votes in the national poll, 71-70, to claim the championship. The momentum carried over into the NCAA Tournament upsetting #19 Whitman, 65-59, and then defeating Texas Dallas, again, in less than a week, 64-51, to keep the season alive.

The tournament will be at #2 Wartburg College who is 29-0.
