@ETBU_Baseball Unable to Keep Pace with Concordia Bats

MARSHALL, Texas – Competing against a talented Concordia University team, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team were unable to keep pace with CTX's offense as they were swept by the Tornados in the doubleheader. The two losses drop ETBU's record to 10-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

Game one saw CTX win 6-3 thanks to three home runs, including two from Carson Cox (four hits, 4 RBI, and one from Caleb Rodriguez (one hit, one RBI). ETBU saw Jeremy Bateman (one HR), Seth Mikeska, and Landen Barns each drive in an RBI with Barns and Bateman each having two hits. Taking the loss was Blaine Parker (4.0 IP, four runs, six hits, six strikeouts). For CTX, Matthew Willis got the win with five innings of three-run, six-hit ball while striking out seven. Caleb Nicholson got the save with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Game two was tight before a late explosion by CTX resulting in a 12-4 victory. Bateman (two RBI) and Casey Combs each picked up three hits for the Tigers while Blake Corbin took the loss with 6.0 IP allowing seven runs on 10 hits and five strikeouts. Offensively for CTX, Cox (HR, RBI) and Jacob Stegent (RBI), had three hits each. Taking the win was Justin Traxler, who pitched 4.2 allowing just four hits and striking out eight batters.

Game 1 – CTX 6, ETBU 3

A leadoff single and double was followed by an RBI single by CTX to take a 1-0 lead. But Barns would tie the game in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI double. In the third inning, CTX would hit a two-run shot for a 3-1 lead. But Bateman would cut the lead to 3-2 with a solo shot of his own.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, CTX picked up back-to-back home runs for three runs in the top of the fifth inning to lead 6-2. ETBU would get a run back as Mikeska would drive in Zach Gartner to make it 6-3. ETBU threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning with a leadoff single. But a double play ended ETBU's threat. CTX sealed the deal with a 1-2-3 seventh inning to preserve the win.

Game 2 – CTX 12, ETBU 4

Both teams scored two runs in the first and one run in the second. In the top of the first, CTX got a two run homer while ETBU countered with Mikeska reaching on an error and a single by Combs in the bottom of the first. One inning later, an RBI single by CTX and an RBI hit by Bateman made the score 3-3. After a scoreless third inning, each team would get a run in the fourth on RBI singles with Bateman tying the game 4-4.

The sixth inning would break through for CTX who piled a three-run home run to go up 7-4. ETBU would threaten in the bottom of the seventh inning as they had two runners in scoring position with the tying run on. However, a strikeout ended the threat. CTX would then extend their lead to 12-4 with three runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth inning.
