MARSHALL, Texas – It came down to one point for the top spot in the American Southwest Conference East Division as #36 University of Texas Tyler just squeezed by the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team, 5-4. ETBU is now 3-9 and 2-1 in the ASC East. This was their sixth nationally ranked team they faced this season.
ETBU had a hard fight from the beginning being down 2-1 after doubles.
Jabree McClaine and
Mullika Seekhieo won the number three doubles, 8-5, over Nancy Perez/Emily Danielson.
Elisa Kendall and
Tess Willis fell, 8-5, at number doubles and
Ashley Schenck and Kaleigh lost, 8-4, at number two doubles.
In singles play, ETBU came out and won the number two, three, and five singles matches to make it match. Kendall won at number two with a 6-3, 6-3, decision over Alexis Arrieta. Smith then won number three singles, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0, battling back after being down after one set. McClaine then took number five singles, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4, for the fourth point also battling back after being down one set. It came down to the number four match with Seekhieo as she fell 7-6, 6-1, in a heartbreaker.
ETBU will host LeTourneau University on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in ASC East play.
