#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Baseball Picks Up Win on Senior Day

MARSHALL, Texas – Making the run to the American Southwest Conference tournament exciting on Senior Day, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team split the double header against the University of Ozarks. ETBU won a nail biter in game one, 1-0, and then fell, 3-2, in game two. ETBU is now tied for sixth in the ASC with an 11-10 conference record to go along with a 21-16 overall record.

Game one was just over an hour long which saw ETBU win 1-0 in the seven-inning game. Jeremy Bateman, Dylan Singletary and Zach Gartner each had a hit for ETBU with the latter getting the only RBI of the game. The day belonged to Derrick Findley who went the distance allowing four hits while striking out eight batters.

In game two, ETBU dropped a heartbreaking 3-2. Mason Aldredge, Casey Combs, and Landen Barns each had a hit for the Tigers while Combs and Zachary McAdams had a RBI. John Marrs took the loss despite pitching 8.1 innings as he would allow three runs on six hits while striking out eight batters.

Game 1 – ETBU 1, UO 0
The first three innings were scoreless as both teams combined for three hits. ETBU was able to get Singletary to third base in the bottom of the first inning, but they were unable to bring him in. The second inning saw a double play made by Zachary McAdams and Landen Barns to end the UO threat. The Eagles then followed up with a bad base running mistake in both the third and fourth innings to end their chances of scoring.

ETBU finally scratched across a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-out single from Gartner for the 1-0 lead. Findley continued to be in cruise mode as he was able to retire six of the next seven hitters, including striking out the side in the top of the sixth inning. He then finished the job recording the final three outs as ETBU picked up the win.

Game 2 – UO 3, ETBU 2
It took one pitch into the game for UO to get on the board with a solo homer in the top of the first inning. But ETBU answered with a game-tying double from Combs in the bottom of the first inning. The score remained the same until the top of the fourth inning when the Eagles put up two runs for a 3-1 lead.

The score remained the same as UO held ETBU hitless until the seventh inning when they brought in a run to trail 3-2 on an RBI groundout by McAdams. But ETBU was unable to tie the game as the Eagles held them in check for the remainder of the game.

ETBU will finish out their regular season next week when they travel to Richardson, Texas, for three games against the University of Texas Dallas. The first game will start at 2:00 PM on Friday while Saturday's doubleheader will be at noon and 2:00 PM.
