RICHARDSON, Texas – A couple of rough innings for the East Texas Baptist University baseball team gave the University of Texas Dallas enough runs as they fell, 19-3. ETBU now possesses a 21-17 overall record and are 11-11 in the American Southwest Conference.
Casey Combs,
Zach Gartner (two RBI), and
Seth Mikeska would each pick up two hits for ETBU. Gartner would also hit a two run homer while
Jack Hanstad added an RBI of his own.
John Marrs ended up taking the loss as he went 3.2 innings allowing seven runs on four hits.
Each team would put up a scoreless inning through two frames although both teams would put together threats with the runner at third base. The Comets broke through on a two run homer to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. ETBU would tie the game in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homer from Gartner at 2-2.
But UTD would regain the momentum and never relinquish it as they scored six runs in each of next two innings to go ahead 14-2 through five. Each team then tacked on a run in the next half inning as the score was 15-3 as ETBU got their third run on a
Jack Hanstad RBI single. UTD would pick up four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead 19-3, which would be the final score.
ETBU will look to bounce back as they will have a doubleheader tomorrow at 12 PM and 2 PM.
