#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Softball Takes Series Over UMHB; Takes 2nd in ASC

MARSHALL, Texas – Sending their six seniors out with a win on Senior Day, the East Texas Baptist University softball came away with a 7-2 victory against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the final game of regular season. With two wins in a best-of-three series, ETBU not only finishes the regular season 31-9 overall and 24-6 in American Southwest Conference but also secures the second seed in the upcoming post season tournament. Jordan Anderson pitched

ETBU's offense was led by two doubles from Daniella Solis, who also had three RBI. Sabrina Salts added three RBI, too. Jordan Anderson went the distance giving up one earned run on four hits while striking out six batters. Kourtney Cummings led UMHB with two hits and one RBI on the day while pitcher Hannah Halepaska ended up with the loss giving up three runs on two hits in only one-third of an inning.

For the players, getting the win on such an emotional day was vital for the team's best case scenario for the seeding in the ASC Tournament. But the team's mindset is hope that this series will not be the last time ETBU plays at Taylor Field this season. "This series was such a huge series to get right before the conference tournament," said McKayla Hendrix. "It's going to carry us through. We came together as a team really well here and I think it's going to continue on. So I'm hoping we can bring it back here for regionals. But if not, we will just get it done somewhere else."

"It's meant so much," said Jordan Anderson. "As a team, we really bought into this ETBU mentality. Playing on Taylor Field for the last time is bittersweet. It's because we have this clubhouse on this awesome field. We really just need to do our part in the next few weeks to get to the tournament and hopefully regionals."

ETBU would strike first in the bottom of the first inning on a three-run homer to go ahead 3-0. Jordan Anderson would retire the first seven batters before surrendering a UMHB home run to cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning. But ETBU would answer with four runs on a solo homer from MacKenzie Anderson and a three-run double by Solis.

Jordan Anderson retired eight straight hitters before giving up the second hit in the top of the sixth inning. The Crusaders then put runners at second and third with one out before Camacho would record a double play to end the threat. UMHB ended up with a run in the seventh inning on an ETBU error before the Tigers recorded the final out to preserve the win.

With a first round bye in the ASC Tournament, ETBU will now wait and see who they will face in the tournament next Friday.
