MARSHALL, Texas- In a rematch from last year's Championship Tournament, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team will host the University of Texas Tyler on Saturday, April 7. ETBU enters the match with an overall record of 3-8 and a 1-0 record in American Southwest Conference games.
ETBU had yet another tough assignment, facing off against UT Dallas on Thursday, March 29. The Tigers loss to the Comets 8-1 at home, with
Elisa Kendall winning the only match in singles play (6-2, 6-3).
ETBU bounced back with a home match against Belhaven, defeating the Blazers 9-0. Kendall and
Tess Willis commanded the number one doubles match, where they only surrendered one point in an 8-1 victory. The doubles pair of
Jabree McClaine and
Mullika Seekhieo also notched an 8-1 win, while
Ashley Schenck and
Kaleigh Smith posted a shutout at 8-0. McClaine had the closest match, winning 6-4, 6-1 in singles play. Willis recorded a 6-1, 6-3 victory, while Kendall and Smith each picked up 6-0 wins. Seekhieo (6-0, 6-1) and Schenck (6-0, 6-2) each tallied wins in singles play.
UT Tyler enters this week's match looking for revenge after falling to ETBU 5-3 in last year's ASC Tournament. The Patriots have a 10-5 record overall and a 2-0 record in ASC play this season. UT Tyler last picked up a victory over Colby College, 6-3 on March 31.
The first match against UT Tyler is set to take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7 from Veterans Memorial Tennis Complex. Â Â
