TYLER, Texas – Two of the top pitchers faced off in the American Southwest Conference Tournament championship game as #14 East Texas Baptist University fell to #3 Texas Tyler, 2-0. ETBU's
Jordan Anderson gave up two earned runs on seven hits and UTT's Colleen Bentke allowed four hits but no runs. Anderson,
Linzie Lewis, and
Jeanette Galvan all made the ASC All-Tournament team for their play.
Anderson struck out three batters in the game and now has 169 strikeouts on the year which leads the ASC.
Morgan Arst,
Daniella Solis,
Linzie Lewis, and
Jackie Ramos each had a hit.
After four scoreless innings, UTT found the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning. Anderson's pitching to that point was on point as she made it out of two jams in the first and second inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, ETBU had their biggest threat of the game with two runners in scoring position with two outs. A fielder's choice ground out ended the threat and ETBU went one, two, three in the bottom of the seventh inning. UTT added an insurance run in the top of seventh to make it 2-0.
ETBU will now wait to see if they make the NCAA Tournament. Coming into the tournament they were fifth in the West Region.
