#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Volleyball Takes Down Belhaven 3-0

JACKSON, Miss. - Using stellar play across the board, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team delivered the 3-0 sweep of Belhaven University on Friday evening. After claiming their first victory in American Southwest Conference play, ETBU moves to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in ASC matches this season.

Sydney Lopez led the Tiger attack once again, contributing 12 kills, and Bailey Byas added six of her own. Elyse Shaw recorded 13 assists and six digs, while Meredith Augsburger chipped in 10 helpers in the match. Paige Miller and Julia De Los Santos manned the defense, each contributing 10 digs in the win. Lizeth Flores and Annie Harris notched two blocks each to round out the defensive effort.

The first set started with BU seizing the momentum and jumping out to a 5-3 lead early. Flores and Lopez teamed up to deliver the kill to bring the score to 5-4, with ETBU threatening to take an early lead.
The Blazers continued to build on the success, increasing the lead by four (11-7) towards the midway point of the set.

A combination of service errors and aces would allow the Tigers back into the set, bringing the lead to just one for the Blazers at 11-10.
BU would rattle off four straight points to go back on top 14-10 at the midway point of the set.

A run by ETBU sparked by a kill by Miller would ensue, giving the Tigers the much needed momentum and put them on top 16-14.
ETBU went on to outscore BU 9-2 down the stretch, resulting in the 25-16 set one win in the match.

Set two would begin much like the first set, with BU scoring the first point and taking the 1-0 lead. The Tigers responded scoring six of the next seven points to go on top 6-2.

BU looked to seize the momentum, tying the set at 9-9 after a 7-3 run. A kill by Allison Sevening put ETBU up 10-9, leading to a 16-8 run to close out the set with a 25-17 edge.

ETBU completed the sweep on the road with a 25-16 set three win after holding the lead for much of the final frame.

ETBU will continue the road trip with a match against ASC opponent Louisiana College on Saturday, Sept. 15. The match is set to tip-off at 2:00 p.m. from Pineville, La.
