ABILENE, Texas – Competing in the ASC Individual Tournament at McMurry, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team continued their dominance as they came away with multiple championships. They won six singles titles while taking two doubles events.
In doubles play, Kaleigh Smith and Elisa Kendall teamed up to win flight A against Kaitlyn Hathorn and Samantha Ritz (McMurry) 8-3 while Olivia Parmelly and Mullika Seekhieo took flight C against Gabrielle Ellwanger and Neah Garza (McM) 8-2. The flight B pair of Tiffany Stankiewicz and Tess Willis finished third in their flight after losing their semifinal matchup before defeating Eliana Evans and Alexis Popovich (Concordia) 8-4.
In total, ETBU lost one match, which came from Ashley Schenck at flight F. But she would bounce back to win the consolation match against Genna Ellinwood (CTX) 6-5, 6-4. Four of ETBU's six championships came at the expense of a McM player as Kendall would again defeat Ritz in the Flight A matchup 6-0, 6-2 while Stankiewicz captured flight B with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Hathorn. In flight C, Smith won a tiebreaker in set one before taking set two with a 6-6 (4), 6-3 win against Claire Huffine (McM). Flight D saw Willis win 6-1, 6-1 against Kali Kyo (Schreiner) in the finals while Seekhieo won a three-set match 3-6, 7-6 (7), 10-5 against ZayraGomez (McM) in flight E. Flight G belonged to Wilcoxson, who defeated Grace Masonheimer (Hardin-Simmons) 7-5, 6-4.
Next up, ETBU will head to San Antonio this weekend to compete in the ITA Tournament starting on Friday.
