MARSHALL, Texas – Taking on a talented #5 Hardin-Simmons University team, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team fell 6-1 at Cornish Field surrendering three goals in each of the two halves.ETBU is now 2-4-1 and 0-3-0 in the American Southwest Conference.
ETBU had five total shots on the game with two on goal.
Ashleigh Rondon had two shots on goal to lead the team while
Kendall Shirley tallied the only score.
Karrigan Falber (three saves) and
Maddie Rea (two saves) combined to record five total saves in the game. HSU would take 17 shots with 11 on goal, which included a hat trick performance in the first half from Kenne Kessler (six shots). Elly Green, Evan Pipkin, and Lexie Kramber would tack on the goals in the win.
The first ten minutes saw a scoreless battle between the two sides with ETBU controlling the possession. But all that changed at 12:27 when Kessler would score her first goal of the game. ETBU would get their first shot of the game nearly three minutes later that was saved by HSU keeper Caitlin Christiansen. Around the 30
th minute, Kessler would score her second goal for a 2-0 lead. Then, she would complete the natural hat trick four minutes later as HSU would lead 3-0. ETBU would continue to struggle from the field as HSU's defense supplied pressure. But Shirley would break the shutout in the 41
st minute with a goal from straight away as ETBU would trail 3-1 going into halftime.
Momentum from ETBU quickly evaporated 12 minutes into the second half when Green tallied the score for the Cowgirls to make it 4-1. In the 69
th minute. Pipkin would make it 5-1 before Kramber secured the sixth goal for HSU four minutes later. ETBU would only have three shots in the second half.
ETBU will host McMurry University at 5:00 PM. on Saturday, September 22, at Cornish Field.
