#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_WS Nets OT Win in Alpine

ALPINE, Texas – East Texas Baptist University's Ashleigh Rondon netted the golden goal in the first overtime as the Tigers edged Sul Ross State University, 2-1. ETBU is now 4-4-1 overall and 2-3-0 in the American Southwest Conference.

It was an incredible day for Rondon who scored both of ETBU's goals including the golden goal to win the game. Overall, she posted five shots with two on goal. The Hunt sisters, Cara and Daphne, would add three of their own, too. Maddie Rea would play all 103 minutes allowing one goal while making seven saves off 14 SRSU shots. The Lobos Brittney Berumen lead with four shots while Emily Mihlak scored the lone goal. Taylor Higgins stopped half of ETBU's 18 shots in the loss.

Two minutes into the game, ETBU had their first shot on goal while it would take nearly six minutes for SRSU to put a shot at the net. The first half was a defensive half with both teams only taking four shots each. Despite opportunities, neither team would capitalize as halftime produced a scoreless affair.

In the second half, both teams would open up and 20 shots were taken with 11 coming from ETBU. SRSU would have an early chance to strike first in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick. But Rea made a key save to preserve the 0-0 score that would be a critical point in the game. Over the next eight minutes, nine shots were taken from both sides with no result. ETBU would then seize control with three of the next four shots. Finally, in the 73rd minute, Rondon found herself one on one with Higgins and found the back of the net to give ETBU a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would maintain this lead for the next 13 minutes until SRSU's Mihlak would equalize with a goal to make it a 1-1 game. Each team would have one chance to score the game-winner, but to no avail as the contest went into overtime.

Seconds into overtime, the Lobos had the first shot, which was denied by Rea. From that point, ETBU would be in control as they put on three shots at SRSU. The first two were saved by Higgins but the third shot would be the charm shot as Rondon was wide open as she capitalize and sank the game-winner at the 103rd minute.

ETBU will head to Jackson, Miss., on Monday, October 1, to face Millsaps College in a regional match. Kickoff is at 6:00 p.m.
