RICHARDSON, Texas – Three second half goals by the University of Texas Dallas ended East Texas Baptist University's upset bid of the Comets, 3-0, in American Southwest Conference women's soccer play. ETBU is now 5-8-1 and 2-5 in the ASC.
ETBU took eight shots with four on goal while UTD had 10 shots and seven on goal.
Jenna Kucera posted three shots with two on goal while
Olivia Gallegos had two shots with one on goal.
Kayla Nichols had the other shot on goal. Maddie Rae took the loss and had four saves.
ETBU's best half was the first half out shooting UTD, 5-1. Kucera had a shot on goal just six minutes into the match as UTD's Morgan Sherman received the save. Sherman then had back-to-back saves on shots from Nichols and Gallegos at the 29
th and 30
th minutes. The only shot by UTD came in the 14
th minute and was off goal. Going into the half, ETBU had the advantage tied up, 0-0.
It was a different story in the second half as UTD came out on fire and had nine shots in the half. It was a penalty kick in the 51
st minute by UTD's Sofia Munoz to make it 1-0. Rae then had saves in the 69
th, 71
st, and 74
th minutes to keep it close at 1-0. UTD's Rana Hussein made it 2-0 in the 84
th minute and then in the 89
th minute Ashlyn Sims added the third goal.
ETBU will travel to Arkansas and face the University of the Ozarks at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
