#TIGERSWIN | @ETBU_WS Secures Overtime Winner Against Lobos

MARSHALL, Texas – For the second straight match in a row, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team secured an overtime victory as they defeated Sul Ross State University, 3-2, on Amy Pineda's golden goal. ETBU is now 7-8-1 overall and 4-5 in the American Southwest Conference.

ETBU outshot the Lobos, 17-8, overall and, 10-4,  in shots on goal. Ashleigh Rondon scored two goals in the contest while dishing out the assist on the winner. Shelby Kindhart also recorded an assist in the game while goalkeeper Maddie Rea had two saves. SRSU had a goal from Joanna Estrada and Aylin Villalobos.

Both teams would deal with a defensive first half although ETBU would have five shots on goal. It would be the one shot by the Lobos that would get them in front 1-0 just ten minutes in. In the 19th minute, Rondon would fly down the right side of the field and put a laser over the keeper's arms to equalize at one apiece. ETBU would have more chances to score only to be denied as it was tied at halftime.

The Lobos would maintain early possession in the second half before the Tigers would get a chance to score. In the 63rd minute, Rondon scored her second goal to give the Tigers a, 2-1, lead. ETBU would maintain this lead for much of the second half. But then, the Lobos would net the equalizing goal on a penalty kick with two minutes to play. This would send the contest in overtime.

The Lobos would have an early chance to score on a corner kick in the first overtime session before the Tigers kept the game tied with brilliant defense. Four minutes into overtime, Pineda would score the winner to give ETBU their fourth win in five matches.

ETBU will take on Howard Payne on Saturday at 5:00 PM at Cornish Field.
