RECAP | @ETBU_WS Holds Their Own vs. HSU

MARSHALL, Texas – In spite of a career-high 11 saves by Maddie Rea, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to the Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls on Friday night. ETBU falls to 3-6-1 on the season and 0-3-0 in American Southwest Conference play.

Cassidy Jenkins scored the lone goal in the match off of the assist by Madelyn Dowell. Ashleigh Rondon and Olivia Gallegos both led the Tigers in shot attempts, each collecting two shots apiece. As a team, ETBU launched eight shots total, with five coming on goal. HSU recorded 17 shots total and 13 right at the net. In spite of picking up the loss, Rea tallied a career-high 11 saves in the match.

It would take an entire half before HSU was able to find the back of the net. Jenkins converted the goal off of the corner kick by Dowell to put the score at 1-0 (58th minute). A shot by Rondon would rattle off the top left post for a goalkeeper save in the 62nd minute as she looked to tie the match. Another attempt by Gallegos would soar over the top over in the 64th minute. ETBU had another shot in the 70th minute and then Raegan Kappler almost had the game tying goal in the 90th minute only to see it batted away.

HSU was able to withstand the stingy defense of the Tigers, hanging on for the 1-0 victory at Cornish Field.

ETBU will continue ASC play with a match against McMurry University on Saturday, Oct. 5th at 5:00 p.m. on Cornish Field.
