LAGRANGE, Ga. - Hitting the centenary mark for the first time this year and having six players score in double figures, the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team captured a 113-99 victory over LaGrange College. ETBU is 2-1 on the season following the win.
Robby Dooley led the way with 32 points on 12-of-13 shooting finishing just one point shy of his career high. Landon Brown (17 points),
Westin Riddick (15 points), Chris Haynes (14 points),
Jordan Gray (11 points, 10 rebounds), and
Jayden Williams (10 points) would also contribute with double-digit point games. Â
ETBU converted 58.6% from the field, including 11 made three-pointers (45.8%). They out rebounded LC, 36-28, stole the ball 12 times, and finished with 56 points in the paint.
ETBU kicked off the game with nine straight points (20:00-18:23) taking a lead they wouldn't give up on the first half. Four of the next eight points went to the Panthers who cut the deficit to 13-8 (16:25). ETBU would slowly take control of the game as they would improve their lead to double-digits, 25-15 (12:20), which included five straight points from
Colton Collins (14:51-14:24). Riddick would then step up to hit five three's in the half including three in a row (12:11-10:36) for nine points as the Tigers grabbed their largest lead, 47-28 (7:50). The Panthers would end the first half on a 24-8 run to bring the halftime lead down to three, 55-52. Â
LC's momentum carried into the second half as they went on a 19-8 run (20:00-16:13) to lead by eight points, 71-63. ETBU would then switch the momentum with a 13-3 run (15:45-14:55) that put them up, 76-74. Dooley would then guide ETBU's comeback with 22 second-half points including a pair of free throws at 10:27 that gave the Tigers the lead for good, 85-83. This would led to nine unanswered points for the Tigers (9:58-8:35) for a 94-83 lead. LC would bring the game to single digits one final time at 96-89 (5:56) but ETBU would finish the game with a 17-10 run to preserve the 113-99 win.
ETBU will look to sweep the weekend as they take on Huntington College at 2:00 PM central time on Saturday.
