#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Softball Shuts Out Belhaven in ASC Sweep

MARSHALL, Texas – On Childhood Cancer Day, the #21 East Texas Baptist University softball team proudly wore their gold jerseys as they shut out the Belhaven UniversityBlazers in both games combining for thirteen runs. The Tigers are currently 10-0 on the season and are 5-0 in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU won game one, 8-0, in six innings and the took game 2, 5-0.
 
Game one presented a six-inning 8-0 win by ETBU as every one of ETBU's players that was in the game had a hit. Hannah Garcia and Daniella Solis (HR) had two hits and two RBI each while Beatriz Lara also had two RBI, including a solo homer. Lara would also be the winning pitcher in game one as she pitched all six innings allowing one hit while striking out nine batters.
 
Game two went the full seven innings as it was a second shutout win by the Tigers, 5-0. Lara would have a team-high three hits while Sabrina Salts picked up two hits and two RBI. Preslye Cox earned the win with six shutout innings allowing two hits and struck out three batters. Emily Deramus (two hits), would manage to pitch one inning allowing one hit and striking out one.
 
Game 1 – ETBU 8, BU 0 (6 Innings)
After a scoreless top of the first, the Tigers struck first when Lara reached on an error to make it 1-0 in the bottom half. Lara would work with the lead for the next two innings allowing just one hit. In the bottom of the third, she would set herself up as the runner in scoring position, which led to Salts driving her in with a double. One inning later, a two-run double by Garcia and an RBI double by Solis made it 5-0 through four innings.
 
Lara would retire the next six batters in the fifth and sixth innings to keep the score at 5-0. In the bottom of the sixth inning, ETBU had a pair of homers by Lara and Solis before a two-out rally led to a game-ending RBI single by Mikaela Tellez scoring Delgado to make the final score 8-0 in six innings.
 
Game 2 – ETBU 5, BU 0
The Blazers loaded the bases in the top of the first but Cox would keep BU stranded with a groundout to end the frame scoreless. ETBU would take the 1-0 in the bottom half with an RBI single by Salts to score Garcia. Deramus would make a double play defensively to end BU's threat in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the third, ETBU would pick up two more runs with Arst stealing home and Salts driving in Garcia from second as ETBU led 3-0. The Tigers extended the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Garcia grounded out, which led to Kourtlin Hunter to score from third. Then Lara would follow with an RBI single.
 
Meanwhile, Cox would run through a string of seven straight BU batters retired before the first batter in the fifth reached on an error. Cox then managed to keep two more Blazer runners stranded in the sixth as the shutout went through six innings. Deramus would then come into pitch in the top of the seventh inning and would complete ETBU's second straight shutout win.
 
ETBU will complete their final game of this series with Belhaven at 2:00 PM on Monday afternoon at Taylor Field.
