MARSHALL, Texas – After coming away with another sweep this past weekend, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball looks to duplicate their previous victories against Belhaven University and Louisiana College. ETBU will be on the road once again as they head out to Jackson, Miss., and Pineville, La., for their last road trip of the regular season.
Last weekend brought ETBU two more wins as they increased their winning streak to seven games. Against the University of the Ozarks, ETBU dominated the game with an 80-56 victory. Then on Saturday, the Tigers completed a season sweep of the University of Texas Tyler winning 68-58.
Kim Childress led ETBU by averaging 13 points per game in the two contests with point totals of 14 and 12.
Amanda Wilson also finished among the leading scorers by scoring 12 points in both games.
ETBU currently owns a 19-2 record overall and is second in the ASC East division with a 10-2 record. Averaging 73.8 ppg while holding opponents to 53.4 ppg,
Kendrick Clark still remains ETBU's point leader averaging 14.1 ppg while Childress is second with 10.7 ppg. Wilson (24 blocks) and
Anna Moss are tied amongst each other in rebounds with 86 although Wilson has a slight edge in rebound average (4.5).
Sydney Saxton leads the team with 4.1 assists per game while
Taylor Singleton averages three steals per game.
ETBU will head out for their final out-of-state road trip of the season this weekend beginning on Thursday at BU. The Tigers defeated the Blazers 79-54 three weeks ago at Ornelas Gymnasium as Clark finished with a game high 18 points while Childress (14 points) and
Erin Meeks (10 points) tallied double-figures. Currently, BU is 7-13 overall and 3-10 in conference coming off a 92-52 defeat at the hands of the University of Texas Dallas. Scoring 58.8 ppg, Lauren Brooks is averaging double figures with 11.6 ppg and has a team-high 9.9 rpg. Aaliyaha Thornton dishes out a team-leading 60 assists.
Following BU, ETBU will head to Louisiana for a rival game against the Wildcats of LC on Saturday. During the last meeting, a 68-44 win by the Tigers, Clark tallied 20 points to lead the team while Childress added 10 points. At 8-11 overall and 5-8 in the conference, LC is coming off a loss to UTD at 77-40. With 66.2 ppg, LC has two players currently scoring double figures. Kourtney McGhee leads the team with 14.6 ppg and 65 assists while Janae Smith tallies 10.2 ppg. Jayla Landrum controls the boards by averaging 5.4 rpg.
While ETBU currently has a 1-0 edge as far as the matchups have gone against both teams to this point, head coach
Rusty Rainbolt will be expecting a difficult potential with the Tigers on the road at both places. "Both games will be tough," said Coach Rainbolt. "We went to Louisiana College and lost last year. They're really athletic and can get after you. Belhaven is super athletic and they're big. Their gym is kind of an older style and it's small. So it can be really loud and be intense. Ultimately, we've got to go out and have two more good days of preparation. Then we have to go in there and try to find a way to get a one-point win. Whether you win by twenty or you win by one, this time of year, it's all about win and advance. We love to continue the momentum that we've had from this past week."
Tipoff for both games will start at 5:30 PM on Thursday night and 1:00 PM on Saturday.
