KERRVILLE, Texas – Improving to 6-4 on the year, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team went 2-1 over their two-day spring break trip to Central Texas. ETBU picked up wins over Occidental College and St. Mary's College (IN) but fell to Connecticut College.
ETBU won both matches on Sunday, 8-1, over St. Mary's College of Indiana and Occidental College. In the first match vs. Occidental, ETBU had a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Olivia Parmelly and
Kaleigh Smith won 8-3 at number two and
Ashley Schenck and
Cassidy Wilcoxson won number three, 8-5. ETBU then won singles matches at number one (
Elisa Kendall), number two (
Tess Willis), number three (
Tiffany Stankiewicz), number four (Kaliegh Smith), number five (
Mullika Seekhieo), and Parmelly at number six.
Against St. Mary's, ETBU swept doubles play winning number one, 8-6 (Parmelly/Smith), Kendall and Stankiewicz at number two (8-0), and Seekhieo and Willis at number three (8-7). In singles play, Kendal (number one), Willis (number two), Stankiewicz (number three), Smith (number four), and Parmelly (number 6) all won their matches.
Monday wasn't as nice to ETBU as they fell 5-4 to Connecticut College. ETBU started out with a 3-0 lead after doubles but couldn't hold on. Kendall was playing well at number one singles when she had to with withdraw and take the loss. ETBU then lost number two singles in a tie breaker, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6. The other win for ETBU came at number three singles as Stankiewicz won, 6-4, 7-5.
ETBU will host Schreiner University at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.
