MARSHALL, Texas – Overcoming an early one-run deficit, the #8 East Texas Baptist University softball team would put on an offensive surge with seven unanswered runs as they completed the sweep of Louisiana College, 7-1. ETBU is now 14-0 overall and 9-0 in the American Southwest Conference.
The day belonged to
Emily Deramus, who not only had three runs batted in on two hits from the plate, but also earned her first win going seven innings allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Mackenzie Anderson and
Sabrina Salts would each have an RBI on two hits while
Kaitlin Hunter added an RBI single. Anderson's RBI came on her sixth home run of the year.
LC would strike first with their only run of the game as their first three hitters teamed up to score on an RBI groundout in the top of the first inning. ETBU tried to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning with runners at the corners but were unsuccessful. Deramus kept the Wildcats in check over the next two innings. Then, ETBU would capitalize with a game-tying single by Hunter and a three-run double by Deramus. A fifth run on a stolen base made it 5-1 after three innings.
Deramus surrendered her first hit in the fourth inning. Yet that was all LC would get as they failed to score the rest of the game. In the bottom of the fourth, Anderson connected for her sixth homer of the season extending the lead to 6-1. One more run in the fifth inning on a Salts' single made it 7-1.
ETBU will resume their season on Tuesday with a doubleheader at 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM against SUNY-Oneonta at Taylor Field.
