#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Softball Continues Winning Streak Sweeping Oneonta

MARSHALL, Texas – Hosting out of state opponent SUNY-Oneonta for a doubleheader on Tuesday night, the #8 East Texas Baptist University softball team recorded two shutout wins against the Red Dragons scoring 11 runs. ETBU is now 16-0 making their winning streak to start the season the longest in program history breaking as the previous mark of 14 was set in 2015.

Game one was a tight pitcher's duel before ETBU managed a two late inning runs to win 3-0. Beatriz Lara pitched another complete game shutout with nine strikeouts and four hits while walking one. She also would have two hits and an RBI. Hannah Garcia would also contribute with a hit and an RBI while she scored a run as well. Taking the loss was Alyssa Bluethgen as she went six innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three.

Game two saw ETBU's offense pick up eight runs in five innings for an 8-0 win. Preslye Cox went the run-ruled five innings allowing two hits and six strikeouts. Garcia, MacKenzie Anderson (two RBI, HR) and Daniella Solis (two RBI, HR) would have two hits in the game while Emily Deramus picked up her first home run and would also have two RBI. The loss for SUNYO went to Julia Calabro with three innings allowing six runs on six hits.

Game 1 – ETBU 3, SUNY-O 0
ETBU struck first in the bottom of the first when Lara drove in Anderson with a single to center. Lara would have to overcome runners in scoring position in the second and third innings as the Red Dragons failed to come through both times keeping them off the scoreboard. But the Tigers were unable to capitalize on a bases loaded scenario in the bottom of the third inning.

Lara would keep the one run lead despite conceding a hit in the fourth and sixth innings. In the bottom of the sixth inning, ETBU would finally get key insurance as Garcia played a role with an RBI double before scoring on a wild pitch. This would be all for Lara, who finished her fifth straight shutout victory with a 1-2-3 inning.

Game 2 – ETBU 8, SUNY-O 0
SUNYO would put a runner on third before Cox would be able to pick up a few outs to retire the side. Salts would put ETBU up 1-0 with a sacrifice fly before Solis connected with a two-run homer to left make it 3-0. The third inning would see a Red Dragon threat end with a double play to end the inning while a Deramus homer and an RBI by Chelcie Pierce extended the lead to 6-0.

Another perfect inning by Cox in the top of the fourth would give way to Garcia collecting a single before Anderson would go deep for a home run to center and an 8-0 cushion. Needing three outs to secure the win early, Cox would waste little trouble as she used seven pitches to secure the sweep.

ETBU will hit the road this weekend with a 2:00 PM game on Friday and a 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM game on Saturday at Howard Payne University.
