MARSHALL, Texas – Putting together a strong hitting performance, the #6 East Texas Baptist University softball swept the doubleheader against the University of Texas Dallas Comets, 5-2, and 9-1. ETBU remains unbeaten in American Southwest Conference play at 14-0 and are now 22-1 overall.

In game one, the Tigers would strike for five runs while hanging on to the three-run victory. MacKenzie Anderson, Beatriz Lara (RBI), Daniella Solis, and Chelcie Pierce (three RBI) had two-hit performances in the win. Lara would also be the winning pitcher allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out eight batters. For UTD, Emily Schroeder finished with two hits while Amber Williams and Nicole Peters had an RBI each. Brianna Young lasted six innings earning the loss with five runs allowed on 12 hits.

Game two saw the Tigers cruise to a 9-1 win in six innings as Preslye Cox was a major factor in the circle (six IP, three hits, six strikeouts) and also at the plate with three hits. Lara (three RBI), Solis (RBI), and Kaitlin Hunter would also come up with three hits for ETBU. Hitting one of three UTD hits, Ravin Wilson delivered the only RBI for the Comets while starting pitcher Lexi White lasted 0.1 innings allowing two runs to take the loss.

Game 1 – ETBU 5, UTD 2
While Lara kept the Comets scoreless through two innings, Pierce would put ETBU ahead 2-0 with a double to left center. In the third inning, Lara faced a bases loaded jam with one out before getting the next two hitters retired with a strikeout and pop out to second. She would then earn an RBI for the Tigers with a single in the fourth inning for a 3-0 edge.

ETBU would scratch two more runs as Carpenter would double in Solis while Pierce picked up her second RBI to make it 5-0. The Comets would break the shutout with two runs in the top of the sixth. Only a snag by Sabrina Salts at first base ended UTD's chance to tie up the ballgame. Lara had no trouble recording three outs in the final frame as ETBU took the first game 5-2.

Game 2 – ETBU 9, UTD 1
Lara would put ETBU on the board first with a two-run homer to left field in the first inning. In the second inning, Cox reached third base on a single and advanced to third  before scoring on an error. Then, Deramus would drive in the fourth run for the Tigers on a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead. UTD would get a run in the top of the fourth inning as ETBU led 4-1.

ETBU would score in their fourth inning in a row as Gill would pick up her first RBI of the season with a single that scored Cox from second for a 5-1 lead. Defensively, Anderson would make a big double play when she caught a line drive and doubled off the runner at first to end the UTD threat in the sixth. The Tigers completed the run-rule walk-off victory with four runs in the sixth with Lara and Solis contributing two RBI singles while Hannah Garcia reached base on an error that scored the final two runs of the game for the 9-1 win.
