MARSHALL, Texas – With
Beatriz Lara throwing a one-hitter for another complete game victory, the #6 East Texas Baptist University softball team finished off the series sweep of the University of Texas Dallas, 5-0, at Taylor Field. The Tigers are currently 23-1 and 15-0 in American Southwest Conference play.
Lara would go the entire game in the circle with six strikeouts allowing just one hit. On offense, she would have two hits and two-RBI while
Mariah Delgado also had two hits in the ballgame. Comets' starting pitcher Brianna Young would last 0.1 innings for UTD giving up three runs on four hits to take the loss.
After throwing a scoreless first inning, Lara swatted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-0 lead.
Emily Deramus would add the third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field. UTD would manage to put their first hit in the top of the third only to leave the runner stranded at third.
ETBU would have some tremendous defensive plays in the game to keep including an over the shoulder catch by
Daniella Solis in left field ending the top of the fourth. The Tigers would have multiple chances to tack more runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, but were unable to come through. Finally in the sixth inning, the Tigers added insurance runs when
Corley Carpenter drove in a run on sacrifice fly while Deramus scored on a wild pitch.
The Tigers will head out to Shreveport, La., for a midweek one-game contest with Centenary College this coming Tuesday. The game starts at 7:00 PM.
