#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Softball Gains 11th Shutout of the Year

SHREVEPORT, La. – For the 11th time this season, the East Texas Baptist University softball team pitched a shutout as they blanked the Centenary College Ladies, 5-0, in a midweek game. This completes the season series sweep by ETBU over CC while putting the Tigers at 24-1 on the season.

Beatriz Lara would be the starting pitcher and went two innings allowing one hit and three walks with four strikeouts. She also would have two hits at the plate and an RBI while MacKenzie Anderson would pick up a two-run homer for ETBU. Hannah Garcia would also step up with an RBI on three hits. Cox would get the win in relief by finishing the final five innings allowing three hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Wendy Gillet and Margeaux Smith would each have two hits for the Ladies while starting pitcher Amberlee Nix was given the loss in 2.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits.

Early on, the Ladies would put pressure on Lara in the first two innings. Lara came through, though, as CC left five runners on base. The third inning brought momentum to ETBU as they would capitalize with a runner on third and two outs on Anderson's two-run homer for a 2-0 lead. That home run was her eighth of the year.

Following both sides going without a run in the fourth inning, the Tigers would tack on three runs over the next two innings starting with a sacrifice fly by Lara in the fourth scoring Garcia, who would then drive in a run of her own in the fifth inning, which made it 4-0. Nikki Gill would reach on an error later on, which scored Corley Carpenter that made it 5-0 ETBU. Cox, who at this point had taken over in the circle, would never give CC a run-scoring opportunity as she completed the shutout win after seven.

ETBU's road trip will go into Clarksville, Ark., this weekend beginning with a doubleheader on Friday at 2:00 PM and a Saturday contest at 12:00 PM against the University of Ozarks.
