MARSHALL, Texas – Taking on two opponents at home, the East Texas Baptist University men's tennis ended up with a split as they lost to Concordia University (TX) 5-4 while sweeping Louisiana College 9-0. ETBU currently stands at 5-6 overall. But thanks to their win over LC, they are 1-0 in the ASC East Division.

Match 1 – CTX 5, ETBU 4

The Tigers would manage to take one doubles match while falling behind 2-1. The pair of Joseph Salinas and Ty Tarver defeated Hoaha Le and Jorge Garcia 8-3 at number two doubles. But ETBU would rally as they took three singles matches with John Herr (No. 2 singles; 6-2, 6-2), Tyler Howard (No. 4 singles; 6-1, 7-5) and Tarver (No. 6 singles; 6-3, 7-5) winning three points for ETBU. The final match came down to Adam Morris battling Adam Compton to a tiebreaker at number five before CTX earned the victory with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 final.

Match 2 – ETBU 9, LC 0

ETBU swept all three doubles matches while conceding one game as Herr and Morris (No. 1 doubles) and Andrew Deutsch and Howard (No. 3 doubles) shut out the Wildcats 8-0. Salinas and Tarver won number two doubles 8-1 over David Dias and Jason Rodriguez. Five of ETBU's six singles victories resulted in scores of 6-0, 6-0. Only Salinas had a tiebreaking match in number one singles before securing the win at 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.

ETBU will next hit the road with a trip to Tyler, Texas for their next match against the University of Texas Tyler at 3:30 PM next Friday.
