CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Continuing to stay undefeated in American Southwest Conference play, the #3 East Texas Baptist University softball team swept the doubleheader against the University of Ozarks, 10-2 and 5-0. With another series win, the Tigers are 26-1 overall and 17-0 in the ASC.
Dominating early on in game one, the Tigers faced little trouble from the Eagles as they cruised to a 10-2 win to open the series. For the fifteenth time in her freshman campaign,
Beatriz Lara would be tabbed with the win as she went the full seven innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight. She also had four RBI on three hits while fellow teammate
Mariah Delgado had three hits as well.
Hannah Garcia would also contribute with two hits, including a two-run homer.
Emily Deramus,
Daniella Solis (RBI), and
Preslye Cox (RBI) would help guide ETBU's offense in a 5-0 game two win with two hits apiece. Cox would also get a win in the circle as she would pitch a complete game shutout allowing five hits while striking out nine batters.
Game 1 - ETBU 10, UO 2
The first three innings would see the Tigers grab six runs with Lara picking up RBI singles in the first and second innings while
MacKenzie Anderson would come through with a sacrifice fly in the second inning to make it 5-0. Then in the third inning,
Kaitlin Hunter managed to drive in
Corley Carpenter on a double to bring the score to 6-0.
From the circle, Lara would retire the first six hitters to start the ballgame. But after back-to-back singles to start the third by the Eagles put runners on first and second before a double play ended the Eagles threat to score. Two innings later, UO would bring in two runs on a double to trail 6-2. Only a Tiger run scored by Anderson on an error in the sixth plus a two-run homer by Garcia and an RBI Lara single in the seventh made it 10-2 and the Eagles would be shut down in the seventh.
Game 2 - ETBU 5, UO 0
In game two, Cox would find herself in an early jam in the second inning with runners in scoring position but struck out a batter for the final out to get out of the situation. Scoreless through three innings, ETBU would finally break through with a run or more in the next four innings starting in the fourth inning when Cox singled to left field scoring Solis.
The Tigers tacked on another run one inning later following a Hunter triple, Solis would bring her in and it was 2-0. Lara would then add on to her team's lead with a two-run single in the sixth inning for a 4-0 score. Carpenter would then follow with an RBI single in the seventh inning. The Eagles would have another chance to score when they put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but Cox kept her composure as she retired the side to end the game.
