MARSHALL, Texas – Remaining undefeated in American Southwest Conference play following a sweep of the University of Texas Dallas, the #6 East Texas Baptist University softball team will hit the road for four games this week. They open up on Tuesday night with one game in Shreveport, La., against Centenary College and then head to Arkansas for a three-game series against the University of Ozarks.
This past weekend moved ETBU to 23-1 overall and 15-0 in the ASC as the Tigers swept the Texas Dallas, 5-2, 9-1, and 5-0.
Beatriz Lara would contribute on both sides as she won both her starts in the circle with a 1.29 ERA with 14 strikeouts while allowing two runs. On offense, she batted .636 with six RBI, including two homers during the series and was named the ASC Hitter of the Week.
Preslye Cox would win the second game for ETBU going six innings allowing one run on three hits while picking up three hits at the plate. Also contributing in the series was
Chelcie Pierce, who finished with three hits and three RBI.
Daniella Solis has the highest batting average hitting .431 with a team-leading 31 hits while Lara recently jumped ahead in the RBI lead with 24. Lara still has an ERA of 0.89 with eight shutouts to go with her 14 wins and 94 strikeouts.
MacKenzie Anderson still tops the home run category with seven.
The Tigers will have four games this week starting with a rematch against CC. ETBU won their first game of the season 4-1 back at Taylor Field on Feb. 4
th. Since then, CC is 11-10 overall and are in the midst of an eight-game winning streak following a sweep of the University of Dallas. Wendy Gillet leads the team with a .417 batting average, 25 hits, and 20 RBI while Sydney Hurley (.345 BA) has two homers on 19 hits. Amberlee Nix is 4-5 in the circle with one save and a 2.89 ERA, in which she has allowed 38 runs on 75 hits.
The week will then continue with a trip to the Natural State in Arkansas for three games against the Eagles of UO. ETBU swept UO last season in Marshall. The Eagles are 6-16 overall and 5-13 in the conference after being swept by Howard Payne last weekend. Paige Lee (.385 BA) ranks on top of the team with 25 hits and 19 RBI while both Kieara Bryant and Sydney Key have three homers. Abby Mork has four wins on the season with a team-low ERA at 3.86 with 33 strikeouts.
Tuesday night's contest with CC starts at 7:00 PM while the series with UO begins with a 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM doubleheader on Sunday with the series finale on Monday at 1:00 PM.
