MARSHALL, Texas – Completing a thrilling three-game sweep against Louisiana College, the #8 East Texas Baptist University softball team will resume their season with five games this week. They host a doubleheader against SUNY-Oneonta on Tuesday before hitting the road to Brownwood, Texas, for three games with Howard Payne.
Last weekend, ETBU took the series against the Wildcats of LC. Game one was a tight 1-0 win with
Beatriz Lara pitching the entire game with three hits and 10 strikeouts while driving in the only run of the game. In game two,
Preslye Cox went the entire way with seven innings allowing one run on six hits while
Morgan Arst (two RBI, two hits) and
Sabrina Salts (two RBI) guided ETBU to a 4-1 win. Game three was a 7-1 blowout as
Emily Deramus was dominant in the circle (7.0 IP, three strikeouts, two hits, one run) and at the plate (two hits, three RBI).
At 14-0 and 9-0 in American Southwest Conference play, the Tigers are off to their best start in program history since 2004. ETBU has scored 99 runs while holding opponents to 30 on the season.
Daniella Solis still has the highest batting average (.525) and hit total (21) while
MacKenzie Anderson has retaken the RBI (16) and home run (six) lead. In the circle, Lara has won all eight of her starts conceding 10 runs on 28 hits all with an ERA on 1.38.
This week will see ETBU compete against the Red Dragons of SUNY-Oneonta for the first time in program history. Coming off splits against LC and Centenary, SUNY-Oneonta is 2-2.
Later this weekend, ETBU travels to Brownwood for three against HPU. A season ago, ETBU swept the Yellow Jackets by outscoring them 32-1 in Marshall. The Yellow Jackets are currently 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the ASC after splitting a doubleheader with the Southwestern Assemblies of God on Saturday. Alexis Sullivan is the top run producer with 13 RBI on a .441 batting average while Aurora Luera collects 17 hits on the season. Audrey Simpson has a 3-1 record in the circle with a 2.78 ERA to go with 15 strikeouts.
Tuesday's doubleheader will be at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM while this weekend will have a 2:00 PM Friday start. Saturday's two contests will begin at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
