MARSHALL, Texas – Hosting the Strike Out Cancer Series this weekend at Taylor Field, the #3 East Texas Baptist University softball will look to stay unbeaten in the American Southwest Conference as they host the LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets. They will play a double header on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and then finish off the series on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
Sunday and Monday saw the Tigers sweep the University of Ozarks in Arkansas. Game one was a 10-2 victory as
Beatriz Lara would get another complete game victory while collecting four RBI on three hits at the plate. In game two,
Preslye Cox would pitch her way to a 5-0 shutout win while also getting two hits and an RBI. She would then follow with five innings of one-hit relief pitching for her second win of the series, 7-3.
MacKenzie Anderson would have a career-high six RBI, which included a home run.
Head coach
Janae Shirley talks about going to Clarksville, Ark., to play saying, "We knew that going into the series that it's just a difficult place to play. The girls did a good job of just overcoming all that, pushing through and getting the wins. We had a few challenges and there's some stuff we need to work on over the series but you can't be dissatisfied with three wins for sure."
This weekend sees ETBU hosting LeTourneau. Last season, ETBU swept the Yellow Jackets without conceding a run. Coming off a series win over Howard Payne University, LETU is 17-10 overall and 14-7 in the ASC. Haydn Parker leads the team in many offensive categories, including batting average (.436), hits, (34), doubles (nine), and RBI (34). She is only second in homers with six, which is one behind team leader Macey Mize. In the circle, Leigh Luker has a team-low 3.89 ERA while fellow pitcher Bailey Richey posts a 7-1 record.
The series starts this Friday night with a doubleheader at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Saturday, which will also be Strikeout Cancer Day, will start at 12:00 PM.
