MARSHALL, Texas – A late-inning rally by #6 Birmingham-Southern College defeated the #2 East Texas Baptist University softball team in their first matchup at the NCAA Division III Marshall, Texas Regional hosted by ETBU. Savannah Buhl received the loss going 2.2 innings while giving up three runs. BSC's Haley Crumpton recorded two hits while Bailey Murphy and Saydee Keith drove in two RBI each. As the visiting team, ETBU started the game at bat. The Tigers put their first two runners on base in the top of the first inning before scoring Delgado on a passed ball for the first run. Deramus would drive in two more runs on a single making 3-0 in favor of ETBU. After a four pitch walk to the leadoff hitter, Lara rebounded to retire the next three Panther hitters in the bottom of the first.  In the third inning, ETBU put runners in scoring position. Once again, it was Deramus with an RBI as she put down a bunt single to push the lead to 4-0. BSC managed to string together a rally that led to three runs scored in the bottom of the third inning to trail 4-3.

The fifth inning brought another scoring chance for the Tigers as they put two runners on with one out. BSC would get a double play to keep the score at 4-3. Meanwhile, Buhl kept the Tigers ahead with scoreless innings pitched in the fourth and fifth. But the bottom of the sixth inning swung momentum to the Panthers as they plated four runs to push ahead 7-4. ETBU would come up empty in the last inning as the Panthers secured the win.

ETBU now faces a must-win game as they take on Texas Lutheran tomorrow at 5:00 PM.
