Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#TIGERSWIN | @ETBU_Soccer Starts Season with OT Win, 4-3

KERRVILLE, Texas - Down 3-1 with 20 minutes to play, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team rallied with two goals in regulation before Max Ponticorvo sealed the comeback 4-3 win in overtime over Schreiner University. This win gives head coach Chad Cox his first win as head coach at ETBU. This match was also the first match of the year after Friday night's match vs. Centenary was cancelled.

Outshooting SU, 16-6, including 13 shots on goal to five, the Tigers were led by Ponticorvo (one assist) and Silas Sangano, who notched three shots each. Travis Atkinson, Keaton Johnson, and Jacob Lopez would each score a goal in the contest while goalkeeper Justin Groves notched two saves. Kevin Escalera (goal) tallied three shots to lead the Mountaineers while Daniel Banda and Rodrigo Navarette each added a goal as well.

The first 17 minutes brought nothing but defense although ETBU would get three shots during that stretch. The Mountaineers would get on the board with the only goal of the first half (18:48). ETBU had three chances to equalize before the first half came to an end.

Thirty-four seconds into the second half, SU improved their lead to 2-0 with a goal. But the Tigers wouldn't be held scoreless for long as at the 53:30 mark, it was Keaton Johnson who came through with the first goal. However, the one-goal deficit was short-lived as the Mountaineers regained their two-goal lead 68 seconds later. ETBU would press their offense looking to get back into the game and they would score at 74:39 when Atkinson netted one on the assist from Ponticorvo. Three minutes later, Lopez (77:15) would equalize to make the score 3-3.

The rest of regulation remained tied at three as the game went into overtime. SU's early attempt to score was called back due to offsides. Then, the Tigers would capitalize as Ponticorvo netted the winner at 94:36.

ETBU will be at home against Austin College this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
