MARSHALL, Texas – Facing a red hot Mississippi University for Women team, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team would put together a strong defensive effort for a 2-0 victory over the Owls. ETBU is now 2-2-1 and will host Millsaps College on Sunday 3:30 p.m
Ashleigh Rondon keyed ETBU's 26-shot barrage with seven of her own as
Abigail Bath and
Cara Hunt recorded the goals.
Kayla Nichols (five shots) and
Olivia Gallegos (three shots) combined for eight shots in total while
Alana Coulter had an assist. In goal,
Maddie Rea grabbed three saves. For MUW, Morgan Dennis and Caroline Grafe had two shots each while goalkeeper Sarah Gilliland made 11 saves while giving up two goals.
It was only three minutes into the contest before ETBU would fire their first shot of the game. Another 10 shots would go by for the Tigers to end the half with 11. But Grafe would hold the Tigers scoreless as she had five saves in the first half for MUW. ETBU's defense would only allow two shots. By the end of the first half, the score was deadlocked at zero.
The Tigers would get off one shot in the second half before Hunt (48:27) would record her first goal of the season to the lower left side of the net on the assist from Coulter. Again, the Tigers defended the Owls while providing multiple chances on offense. The score stayed the same until Bath (85:59) sealed the win with four minutes to play.
The Tigers will resume their home stretch tomorrow when they welcome Millsaps College at 3:30 PM.
