BSC Ends @ETBU_Soccer Comeback in OT

MARSHALL, Texas – After tying up the match with two goals in the second half, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team had a heart breaking end as Birmingham Southern College netted the golden goal in the 93rd minute. ETBU is now 1-4 on the year.
 
ETBU had a chance to win the game in the 92nd minute just missing the winning goal as momentum was in their favor. Less than a minute later, BSC lifted a shot from 25 yards out the curved into the back left net just over the goalies hands to end the game.
 
ETBU had 23 shots with eight on goal while BSC posted 18 shots with 10 on goal. ETBU's two goals came by Max Ponticorvo and Travis Atkinson. Silas Sangano had five shots with two on goal while Juan Cairo posted four shots with one on goal. Justin Groves collected seven saves. For BSC, Jackson Lynn had two goals as Bryan Arteaga had one. Coleman Jennings shot seven times with four on goal.
 
In the first 25 minutes, ETBU had three shots on goal that were all saved by BSC. Cairo, Diego Gutierrez, and Ponticorvo all had shots that were saved. After Ponticorvo's shot in the 26th minute, BSC struck the net their fourth shot on goal of the period in the 28th minute as Lynn scored his first goal. Just nine minutes later, BSC made it 2-0 on Jackson's second goal of the day. ETBU had a chance to get on the board in the final eight minutes with four shots as Isaiah Simien had a shot on goal in the 42nd minute. BSC took a 2-0 lead into the half.
 
The momentum shifted quickly in the second half to ETBU as Ponticorvo cut the lead to one in the 52nd minute. Both teams exchanged several shots over the next 25 minutes as Groves had three saves in that time for ETBU. It was Atkinson who tied the game in the 78th minute off an assist from Ponticorvo as ETBU shifted momentum back their way. In the next 12 minutes, ETBU had three more shots with one on goal by Sangano in the 89th minute that just missed being the game winner. BSC also had three shots in that time and one Groves save in the final seconds of regulation.
 
ETBU's momentum stayed strong the first two minutes into overtime as Travis Floyd took a shot that went left and then 16 seconds later Sangano's shot was saved by the BSC team to end the threat. It was just under a minute later, BSC had the perfect shot to win the game, 3-2.
 
ETBU will be back at home on Friday, September 20, when they host Millsaps College at 7:30 p.m.
