BOSSIER CITY, La. – Sneaking by the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team with three second half goals, Millsaps College came back on Freedom Field in Louisiana, 3-2. The match was moved to Bossier City, La., due to field conditions in Marshall, Texas. ETBU is now 1-5 on the year.
Isaiah Simien led ETBU netting both goals and posting five shots.
Travis Floyd,
Dominic Wood, and
Diego Gutierrez each had three shots a piece. ETBU had five shots on goal total as Millsaps had seven on goal. Matthew Reed, Jeff Bruni, and Gabriel Ryce all scored for Millsaps.
Justin Groves had four saves for ETBU.
ETBU struck the net first in the 44
th minute just before halftime as Simien collected his first goal on the assist from
Tristan England. ETBU took seven shots in the first half with five on goal dominating the half.
It didn't take MC long to tie the game in the second half just five minutes in when Reed tied it up at one on an assist from Brett Judd. Seven minutes later, Simien put ETBU back up, 2-1, with his second goal on an assist from
Max Ponticorvo. Once again, MC tied it up in the 62
nd minute on a Bruni goal and less than a minute later Ryce put the Majors up for good, 3-2. In the last 15 minutes of the match, ETBU pushed hard with three shots and one goal just missing the tying goal. Two shots narrowly missed going in with the third being batted out above the cross bar by the MC goalie.
ETBU will next play on Thursday, September 26, in Austin, Texas, against Concordia-Texas in American Southwest Conference play.
