ABILENE, Texas – The East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team kicked off their new season participating in the fall American Southwest Conference Invitational in Abilene, Texas. Several players won first round matches and stayed in the winner's bracket.
 
Abby Jones (E Draw Singles) and Maddi Davis (F Draw Singles) won their opening matches and advanced to the winner's bracket. The two of them would each finish fourth in their respective flights. Despite falling in the first two matches of Flight A singles, Ashley Schenck would manage to her third match over Vicky Rendon (UMHB) to take seventh in the flight.
 
In doubles, ETBU would have three pairs win their first round matches and advance to the winner's bracket. Jones would team up with Corrine Hall for third place in Flight C doubles as they would win their opening match against Iris Montero and Victoria Morales of Schreiner University. A loss to Kyra Mobley/Abigail Kendall (Hardin-Simmons University) put them in the third-place match where they defeated Morgan Parnell/Mandy Robertson (McMurry). The other two pairs of Davis/Kelsey Roberts (Flight A) and Schenck/Cassidy Wilcoxson (Flight D) would also make it to the third place match before ending up in fourth.
 
ETBU will have their next fall event this weekend when they travel back to Abilene for the Women's ITA Tournament.
