RECAP | @ETBU_Soccer Falters in ASC Opener on the Road

AUSTIN, Texas - A strong second half by Concordia University-Texas became the difference as the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team fell in the American Southwest Conference opener, 6-2. ETBU is now 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the ASC.

Max Ponticorvo and Silas Sangano would each score a goal for the Tigers while Keaton Johnson, Tristan England, and Travis Atkinson would lead with two shots each. Justin Groves had four saves on 19 shots faced. CTX was led by Marco Vasquez and Edgar Guerrero, who each would tally two goals while Erik Rodriguez made four saves on 11 shots.

The first half started off promising for the Tigers who waited until 18:04 when Ponticorvo would put the Tigers up 1-0. They would keep this lead for the next seven minutes until the Tornadoes equalized in the 26th minute. The rest of the first half would see both teams have chances to breakthrough only to have each goalkeeper prevent the go-ahead goal. It was tied at one at halftime.

The match would change in the second half when CTX would score two goals in the first five minutes to lead, 3-1. The Tigers would manage to get the score down to 3-2 as Sangano netted his first for the season at 58 minutes. ETBU would have a chance to tie in the 67th minute. But CTX's keeper made a great save that kept the lead in check. This would be the best chance for the Tigers to tie the score as CTX would finish out with three unanswered goals for a 6-2 win.

ETBU will look to bounce back Saturday when they travel to Belton, Texas, to take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:30 PM.
