MARSHALL, Texas – In spite of scoring two early goals in the first half, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team were unable to overcome a second half push by Louisiana State University-Alexandria as the three-match unbeaten streak came to an end, 4-2. ETBU ends preseason play with an overall record of 3-3-1, and drops to 2-1-1 in home matches this season.
The Tigers were led on offense by
Katelynn Smith and
Brianna Mickshaw who each scored goals in the first 45 minutes.
Ashleigh Rondon and
Olivia Gallegos each chipped in an assist, and
Maddie Rea led the defensive effort with four saves. Zarah Arnaud and Karen Jacobs scored led LSUA with two goals each.
As a team, ETBU launched 14 shots with seven coming at the net. The Generals outshot the Tigers, putting up 21 shots overall and nine on goal. LSUA also recorded five saves on the day.
Seven minutes into the match ETBU's Smith connected on a goal just outside the box, giving the Tigers the early 1-0 lead. LSUA would respond at the 17 minute mark of the first half, when Arnaud sank a shot inside the box off the assist by Jacobs, tying the match at one.
The Generals responded with yet another goal when Jacobs converted a shot in the final 13:36 of the first half to put the road team on top 2-1. The Tigers would end the period with a goal by Mickshaw off the feed from Rondon, squaring the match at two heading into the half.
The Generals added two more goals in the second 45 minutes, keeping ETBU off the board and securing the 4-2 win.
ETBU will kick-off American Southwest Conference play on the road next week with a match against Concordia-Texas on Thursday, Sept. 26
