RECAP | @ETBU_WS Battles UMHB to the End

MARSHALL, Texas – Concluding the two-game road trip in Belton, Texas, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team fought to the end agains the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, falling 2-0. ETBU drops to 3-5-1 overall and 0-2 in American Southwest Conference.

Amy Pineda and Olivia Gallegos led the effort in shot attempts, tallying two each. Ashleigh Rondon, Hayley Bowers, Kayla Nichols, Jenna Kucera and Kennedy Voldan all chipped in one shot each in the contest. Maddie Rea collected four saves. Dannah Fristschle and Brynna Gardner each scored goals for UMHB.

As a team, ETBU notched nine shots total with five coming on goal. The Cru launched 10 total shots, with six coming right at the net.

Pineda provided the first shot attempt for the Tigers eight minutes into the match. It found its way off the left side of the goal post, followed by a shot attempt by Nichols that rattled off the right side of the post 50 seconds later.  

The Cru's Fristschle found the back of the net at the 19:26 mark of the contest, giving UMHB the 1-0 lead. ETBU would have one more shot attempt by Bowers with 39:47 on the clock, but it would not find the net. ETBU trailed UMHB 1-0 heading into halftime. The Tigers hoisted five total shots at the net in the first 45 minutes, while the Cru launched eight shots in the opening half.

UMHB scored the second goal of the match three minutes into the second half, pushing the lead to 2-0. Just 10 minutes into the second half, ETBU lost a player due to a second yellow card and played with 10 players the final 35 minutes. In that time, ETBU did out shoot the Cru, 5-2. Rondon would make one last effort to put ETBU on the board with a shot attempt at the 88:23 mark but couldn't find the net as the match ended.

ETBU returns to Cornish Field for a matchup against Hardin-Simmons University on Thursday, Oct. 3rd.
