Second Half is the Difference as @ETBU_Soccer Falls to SU

GEORGETOWN, Texas - With all the scoring coming in the second half, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team found themselves coming up short, 2-1, against Southwestern University. ETBU is now 1-2 overall.
 
ETBU would outshoot the Pirates 11-9 but only had four shots on goal in contrast to SU's five. Max Ponticorvo would put up three shots in total while Tristan England collected the lone assist for the Tigers on the Jacob Lopez goal. Justin Groves would make three saves and allow two goals in all ninety minute. SU had goals from Garrison Van Houten and Michael Glode while Jack Adams and Seth Holzmann tallied two shots apiece. Dejan Savic keyed an assist on both goals while SU goalkeeper Jackson Krueger made three saves on the day.
 
The first half went scoreless even though ETBU had five shots and three corner kicks. The Tigers would maintain possession with three shots in the first twenty minutes. The Pirates would get off a shot one minute later as Groves made his first save of the match. Each team took one more shot before halftime.
 
In the second half, the Pirates would strike first at 53:28 to take a 1-0 lead. The lead was short-lived as ETBU worked their way to get a goal from Lopez with England getting the assist at 56:35. Three shots would be combined between the two teams as neither would score for the next 11 minutes. Then, at 68:58, the Pirates broke the tie for a 2-1 lead. SU then held ETBU to three shots with one being saved.

ETBU returns to action on Friday at 6:00 p.m. when they host Sewanee University at Cornish Field.
