#TIGERSWIN | @ETBU_Softball Claims Two More Shutouts

MARSHALL, Texas – Recording two more shutouts for the 2020 season, the East Texas Baptist University softball team swept the double header over Sul Ross State University,6-0, and 8-0. ETBU is now 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the American Southwest Conference.  
 
Game 1 went seven innings as ETBU blanked the Lobos, 6-0. Daniella Solis (RBI) and Emily Deramus each had two hits while Mariah Delgado and India Holland (HR) each drove in two RBI. Beatriz Lara recorded an RBI at the plate, she was also the winning pitcher with seven shutout innings allowing four hits while striking out three.  

Game 2 lasted six innings as the Tigers recorded an 8-0 win. Preslye Cox earned the win in the circle allowing two hits while striking out six batters. Delgado (three hits) and Solis (two hits) combined for five hits while Ramzi Smith and Hannah Garcia each had two RBI.  
 
Game 1: ETBU 6, SRSU 0
The game would be scoreless until the fourth inning when ETBU's bats came alive. ETBU tallied five runs in the inning starting with a two run homer by Holland. Three batters later, Delgado singled in to right center to drive in two more runs before Solis drove her in for a 5-0 lead after four.  
SRSU loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning with two outs but a fly out to right field ended the inning. Lara would bring in an insurance run on a sacrifice fly to left in the sixth inning for a 6-0 lead. SRSU did load the bases in the top of the seventh as they looked for a hit to get back in the game but Lara once again ended their threat with a pair of strikeouts ending the game.
 
Game 2: ETBU 8, SRSU 0
ETBU would strike first in the first inning on a RBI double from Solis scoring Delgado. Two innings later, Corley Carpenter would record a RBI single to make it, 2-0. Cox would retire the first ten batters in the game before running into trouble putting two runners on base in the fourth inning. She got out of the jam with a pair of groundouts to retain the shutout. 
 
ETBU would break open the game with five runs in the sixth inning including two-RBI hits by Smith and Garcia while Delgado picked up a RBI double. Following another scoreless inning from Cox, the Tigers would seal the win with home run. It was Solis who went yard for another home run on the year to preserve the sweep of the doubleheader, 8-0.
 
Tomorrow's finale will begin at 12:00 PM at Taylor Field.
