@ETBU_Baseball Late Comeback Bid Comes Up Short vs. CC

MARSHALL, Texas - Opening their 2020 season at home, the East Texas Baptist University baseball comeback came up short against the Centenary College Gents, 5-3. ETBU was down, 5-1, when their comeback started. They are now 0-1 on the year.  

Offensively, Will Kelley recorded three hits, including a two-run homer while Brady Faulkner had two hits. Derrick Findley started and took the loss allowing three runs on six hits in three innings. Peyton Miller (4.0 IP, one run), Erik Gipson (1.0 IP, one run), and Daniel Rubio (1.0 IP) all had appearances in the game. Chris Haggard guided CC with three hits and an RBI while Chris Chowder had two hits, including a two-run homer. Connor Lee recorded the win by going 6.2 innings allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts.  
 
CC opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI double. They would extend their lead to 3-0 on a two-run homer in the top of the third inning. The Tigers would have runners in scoring position in both the second and third but would come up empty. Only in the fourth inning did ETBU score when Jake Miller drove in Faulkner to trail, 3-1.  
 
The game stayed that way until the Gents would score a run in both the seventh and eighth innings to push their lead to four, 5-1. ETBU would cut the lead in half on a Kelley two-run homer that scored Faulkner making it, 5-3. The Gents would get out of two jams in the eighth and ninth inning to secure the win. ETBU left the bases loaded in the eighth inning and two runners on in the ninth inning. Overall, ETBU left 11 runners on base.
 
ETBU will travel to Shreveport, La., to finish their series against CC with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM.
