PREVIEW | @ETBU_Softball Travels to Arizona for NFCA Leadoff Classic

MARSHALL, Texas – Traveling west to face several storied NCAA Division III programs, the East Texas Baptist University softball team is headed to Tucson, Ariz., for seven games in the 2020 NFCA Leadoff Classic. This marks the second time in three seasons ETBU takes part in the event. ETBU is currently ranked fourth in the nation and is 10-0 on the year.

  • 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the American Southwest Conference after sweeping Sul Ross State University.
  • Blanked the Lobos of SRSU, 6-0, and, 8-0, in Friday's doubleheader. Daniella Solis finished with four hits and three RBI, including a walkoff home run in Game 2. Beatriz Lara (7.0 IP, four hits, three strikeouts) and Preslye Cox (6.0 IP, six strikeouts, two hits) each earned complete game shutout wins.
  • Completed the sweep of SRSU with a 7-4 win in the third game. Regina Garza and Hannah Garcia each had two hits and an RBI while Solis (HR) and Emily Deramus drove in two RBI. Chelcie Pierce knocked in the game-winning RBI.
  • Second time in three seasons ETBU took part in the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
  • Went 3-3 in 2018's Leadoff Classic with wins over Birmingham-Southern (5-3), Wittenberg (10-1), and #8 Trine University (3-2).
  • Madison Prince was named to the 2018 NFCA All-Tournament team and was also ASC Hitter of the Week. She batted .444 with eight hits, six RBI, three triples, and two home runs.
  • Will mark the first meetings with SJFC, EU, BC, TU, and BW.
  • Last swept DePauw, 6-2, and, 2-1, in 2017
  • Last defeated Piedmont, 1-0, in 2013.
  • Solis has homered in four of the last seven games, including the previous two.
  • Solis leads ETBU in batting average (.545), hits (18), doubles (six), home runs (six), and RBI (42).
  • ETBU is 19-of-21 on stolen bases. Mariah Delgado leads with a perfect seven-of-seven
  • Lara (1.83 ERA) has six wins and 47 strikeouts to lead the Tigers pitching staff.

DePauw
  • 4-0 overall after wins over BSC (7-2), Covenant College (9-1), Emory & Henry (3-2), and Mt. St. Joseph (2-1).
  • Ranked 8th in this week's NFCA DIII Top 25 poll.
  • 0-2 against ETBU after being swept in 2017.
  • Becca St. Germain was selected as the North Coast Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week on Feb. 17. By batting .636 and slugging .909, she had seven hits in 11 at-bats with three doubles and three RBI.
  • Cami Henry was selected as the NCAC Pitcher of the Week. She pitched two complete game victories allowing nine hits and striking out 16 batters while posting an (0.88 ERA)
  • Germain leads in batting average (.636), hits (seven), and doubles (three)
  • Akyssa Nowak leads in RBI with three.

St. Johns Fisher College
  • Will begin their season this week.
  • 27-17 overall last season.
  • Finished the year by being eliminated in the NCAA DIII Softball Regionals

Emory
  • 1-3 overall.
  • Entering the tournament on a three-game losing streak.
  • Ranked sixth in last week's NFCA DIII Top 25 poll but fell out this week
  • Greta Walker leads the Eagles in batting average (.429), hits (six), and RBI (seven)
  • Sami Feller has the lone home run for EU
  • Madison Schaefer has a team low 4.67 ERA in the circle winning one game while in 15.0 innings, has allowed 11 runs on 17 hits with seven strikeouts.

Berry College
  • 6-1 overall following 10-0 win over Sewanee
  • Makenzie Flynt leads in batting average (.542), hits (13), RBI (10), stolen bases (three), and triples (two) while tied for the doubles lead with three. She also has pitched in six innings allowing just one hit and earning a win.
  • Madison Morgan has two homers to lead the Vikings. She also leads in runs scored (10) and is second in hits (11) and RBI (six).
  • Madison Hollis has three wins while posting a 0.78 ERA allowing four runs on 16 hits while striking out 15 batters in the circle.

Piedmont College
  • 4-4 overall following a 4-3 lost to the University of Lynchburg
  • First meeting with ETBU in seven seasons.
  • Micaela Quesada leads with a .368 batting average, eight RBI, and three homers. She is tied along with Hannah Morgan and Rebekah Stegmeyer with seven hits each.
  • Madison Garrett and Mackenzie Davis both have two doubles.
  • Stegmayer leads in runs scored (six) while sharing the stolen base lead with Madalyn Williams with three each.

Transylvania
  • 4-0 overall following 8-0 win over Hiram College.
  • Have yet to concede a run this season.
  • Abby Frazier (two HR, six RBI) and Alyssa Nunn (six runs scored) each had eight hits apiece and a .667 batting average to lead the Pioneers.
  • Frazier also leads in stolen bases with three.
  • All pitchers have a 0.00 ERA.
  • Kameron Bowling has won two complete games going 12.0 innings while allowing six hits and striking out 22 batters.

Baldwin-Wallace
  • Will begin their season this weekend.
  • 33-10 overall losing in Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament
