TUCSON, AZ - Taking on two tough out of region opponents in the NFCA Leadoff Classic, the #4 East Texas Baptist University softball team picked up two wins moving to 12-0 on the season. ETBU won their first game of the day, 6-1, against #8 DePauw University, and then took the second game into extra innings for a 1-0 win over St. John Fisher College.

Game one against DePauw went seven innings as ETBU picked up the 6-1 win.
Daniella Solis (RBI) and
Emily Deramus (RBI) each had two hits, while
Lorena Ramirez,
Nikki Gil (RBI), and
Beatriz Lara (RBI) each had one hit. Lara picked up her seventh win of the season as she only allowed one run on six hits while striking out six.

Game two against St. John Fisher would go eight innings as ETBU won, 1-0, on a walk off single from
Corley Carpenter in the bottom of the inning. Carpter (RBI) had three hits on the day, while
Mariah Delgado,
Lorena Ramirez,
India Holland and
Hannah Garcia each collected one hit.
Preslye Cox was dominant in the circle pitching the full eight innings for a complete game shutout, striking out three, and picking up her fourth win of the season.

Game 1: ETBU 6, DU 1
ETBU would strike first in the top of the first inning on a RBI single from Deramus scoring Delgado. The Tigers would get one more run across in the inning as
Nikki Gil drove in Carpenter on an infield single. One inning later Lara would record an RBI double off the center field wall driving in Peirce.

The Tigers would push two more runs across in the top of the fifth as Delgado would score on a fielding error by the third baseman bringing the lead to 4-0. A Solis double to deep center would score
Regina Garza giving ETBU the 5-0 lead. DePauw would get one run across in the bottom of the fifth inning as Oliva Jackson came into score. ETBU would score one more run in the top of the sixth as Corley Carptenter would score Garza on sac fly to center for the five-run lead, 6-1. Lara was dominant in the circle while allowing one run on six hits, and striking out six.

Game 2: ETBU 1, SJFC 0
One run was all the Tigers needed in game two to pick up the 1-0 win against St. John Fisher. A pitcher's dual through the first seven innings, ETBU would collect six hits, while SJFC had seven hits. Starting with a runner on base in the eighth inning due to the IBB rule, Carpenter was able to drive in Delgado to give the Tigers the 1-0 win. Cox picked up her fourth win of the season while striking out three batters.

ETBU will take on Emory University at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday followed by a match up against Berry College at 9:00 p.m.
