#TIGERSWIN | @ETBU_Baseball Hands CTX First ASC Loss

MARSHALL, Texas – For just the fourth time in program history, East Texas Baptist University came away with an upset win over reigning American Southwest Conference champions Concordia University Texas, 1-0. Blake Corbin had a career game recording 13 strikeouts and only allowing three hits. Concordia Texas averages five runs a game and was shutout by ETBU who is now 3-12 overall and 3-4 in American Southwest Conference.

Ford Spigener led the way for the Tigers, recording a homerun for the lone score of the game. Christopher Robinson and Devyn Nicholson each tallied a hit to round out the offensive effort for ETBU. Corbin improved to 2-1 after an impressive performance on the mound. The senior tallied 13 strikeouts and allowed just three hits in 122 pitches on the night. Matthew Williams suffered his first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1 after the setback.

Robinson was the first to get on base after connecting on a line drive single to center field. A sacrifice bunt by Nicholson would advance Robinson to second base, but back-to-back strikeouts would keep the game scoreless.

It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth inning that ETBU would score the game's only run. Spigener would send a pitch by Williams over the left field wall, making it, 1-0. Corbin would strikeout six consecutive batters between the fifth and sixth innings, leaving the Tigers with a 1-0 lead. He pitched out of threats in the seventh and eighth innings with a runner on second base each time. In the ninth inning, CTX had a runner on with just one out but a fielder's choice out and then a groundout by Grayson Lee sealed the 1-0 victory for ETBU over the defending ASC champions.

ETBU will face the Tornados in a double-header on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. on Woods Field.
