Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WS | Defensive Effort Ends in 0-0 Tie

MARSHALL, Texas- In a great defensive game by both teams, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team earned their third tie of the year in a 0-0 double overtime battle with the University of the Ozarks. ETBU is now 6-3-3 and 2-2-2 in the American Southwest Conference.
 
It was Claire Montondon that recorded the shutout recording seven saves. She faced 13 shots with seven on goal as she earned her fifth shutout of the year. Aaliyah Casas had seven shots with two on goal while Raegan Kappler took five shots with four on goal. Amy Pineda, Kayla Nichols, and Olivia Gallegos all had two shots on goal. Overall, ETBU took 34 shots with 16 on goal. Ozarks goalie Sydney Frazier collected all 16 saves in the tie.
 
ETBU had 11 shots in the first period as six were on goal. Period two brought 14 shots with seven on goal as the game remained tied at zero. In the 89th minute, Gallegos had a chance to win the game but Frazier grabbed the shot at the bottom center of the goal. Ozark answered at 89:25 but the shot just went over the top of the goal as overtime would occur.
 
Gallegos and Karina Flores each had shots in the 92nd and 93rd minutes that went left trying for the winning goal. Nichols then had a look but Ozarks Frazier snagged it at the bottom left of the goal in the 97th minute. In the 99th minute, Nichols once again had a chance but the shot went high.
 
In the 101st minute, Casas nailed a shot but it went right of the goal. Brianna Mickshaw then saw a chance in the 107th minute only to be stopped by Frazier. Casas followed with two shots both in the 108th minute as one went away from the goal and the other saved by Frazier in the bottom right. Nichols added the final ETBU shot in the 109th minute that went high. Montondon then made the biggest save of the game with 32 seconds left as Ozarks had a chance to seal the win only to see a save come in the center of the goal as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
 
ETBU will host the University of Texas Dallas at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at Cornish Field.
